QuickBooks online software is for managing your business's accounting records.

It allows you to track and process all of your data in one place - create and send invoices, accept payments, record bank transactions, generate financial reports, VAT and much more.

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self-Assessment (ITSA) mandates that sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 use compatible software to keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC, starting April 6, 2026.

FAQ

  • Currently, all VAT-registered businesses in the UK need to use MTD (Making Tax Digital) approved software, such as QuickBooks, to keep digital records and submit their VAT returns to HMRC. 

    MTD for Income Tax will come into effect for self-employed individuals and landlords with a total qualifying income over £50,000 as from April 2026, then for those over £30,000 as from April 2027.  MTD for Corporation Tax will follow at some point.  So, it’s a good idea to get onto software now if you are not already using it.  

  • Accounting software is not intended to replace accountants – it is designed to make life easier for businesses by saving time and having all their finances in one up-to-date place and for accountants by allowing a real-time overview of their clients’ accounts, immediate access as and when needed and the ability to advise quickly and accurately. 

  • The software is designed to be intuitive and easy-to-use.  QuickBooks technology uses AI automation to predict and suggest entries, thereby making regular tasks more streamlined and less labour intensive.  Errors can be easily rectified and corrections can be made without fear of ‘messing everything up’.

    There are packages for all sizes of business and various features to cater for different needs such as an integrated payroll module, mileage tracker, customer estimates feature, an online card payment function, cashflow planners and a CIS module for those in the construction industry.

  • Yes, we can provide training either at our office in Halifax or at your business premises.  Training is usually structured around the key bookkeeping areas – sales, invoicing, expenses, banking, VAT and reporting, but it will always be specific to your business and at a pace you feel comfortable with.

  • Yes, if you are not already on QuickBooks we will move you over either from your existing software system or get you set-up from scratch.  We will then either provide training so you can do the day-to-day bookkeeping yourself or we’ll take over the bookkeeping function for you.

  • We can design a bookkeeping package to suit you – this can range from a full monthly service which covers sales invoicing, processing of purchase invoices and allocations of bank payments and receipts, to a mixture where the client does some of the day-to-day bookkeeping tasks and we do the rest.

  • We work with two main packages – ‘Essentials’ and ‘Plus’ and can offer wholesale discounts on the price you would pay directly from the Intuit QuickBooks website.  Prices start at £28 per month.
